COBOL LANGUAGE

        Information Systems has a variety of languages that one can learn when seeking a degree.  At Eastern Kentucky University the language of choice is Cobol.  Cobol is an older programming language that runs mostly on mainframes.  The year 2000 problem is approaching and to Cobol programmers this means jobs.  Cobol was the popular language in the sixties when ram was expensive an businesses wanted to save space as well as money.  To do this the business left off the first two digits of the date.  Since it is two expensive to rewrite the programs in a different code Cobol programmers will be in high demand as the year 2000 approaches.
