Introduction to design and development of Web-based systems. Includes Internet and Web technology; Web development using design procedures, HTML, and XML; and hands-on experience in website design and authoring. General Ed., Block VII.
Course Introduction
CIS 240 is designed specifically for general education and provides students with basic knowledge of Internet information systems and Web authoring skills. The course begins with an introduction of the Internet, World Wide Web, and hypertext/hypermedia. It illustrates the Internet as a collection of online information systems and services that are impacting all aspects of our lives. The course then explores HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) for the construction of Web pages. Students will learn how to attach a hyperlink, how to work with graphics, and how to create and modify tables and forms in HTML. The remainder of the course focuses on XML (Extensible Markup Language) that is used for developing document contents. Students will learn how to integrate the data contents of an XML file with an HTML file in order to publish the information-rich document to the Web.
