The methodology is the problem! It is an excessively long, drawn out process that leads to schedule and cost overruns.
We could not disagree more! In fact, we view that argument as an excuse to justify not managing projects. Methodologies define best practices and processes for developing information systems. Methodologies apply engineering rigor to the project. Methodologies ensure that important activities that could (and frequently do) compromise expectations and quality are not omitted. In a nutshell, project and process management are each dependent on the other!
